Welcome to the website of Dr. Lorraine Gudas!

These are some of my heroes.....

Favorite Quotation:

Failure is Impossible.

(Susan B. Anthony)

Her last public words, "Failure is impossible," became the suffrage rallying cry.

"Without Susan B. Anthony and women like her, I would not be in my current position as Chairman of Pharmacology, Weill Cornell Medical College."

Dr. Lorraine Gudas

"I believe in science."

Hillary Clinton, July 28, 2016.

Beate Sirota Gordon, the daughter of Russian Jewish parents who at 22 almost single-handedly wrote women’s rights into the Constitution of modern Japan, and then kept silent about it for decades.

She produced what became Article 24:

Marriage shall be based only on the mutual consent of both sexes and it shall be maintained through mutual co-operation with the equal rights of husband and wife as a basis. With regard to choice of spouse, property rights, inheritance, choice of domicile, divorce and other matters pertaining to marriage and the family, laws shall be enacted from the standpoint of individual dignity and the essential equality of the sexes.

She has become one of my feminist heroines.

She died in December, 2012.

She filibustered to prevent the Texas legislature from passing a restrictive women's rights bill!!

Emily Wilding Davison (11 October 1872 – 8 June 1913) was a militant suffragette who fought for women's suffrage in Britain. She was jailed on nine occasions and force-fed 49 times.[1] She stepped in front of King George V's horse Anmer at the Epsom Derby on 4 June 1913, suffering fatal injuries. Her funeral on 14 June 1913 was organised by the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). Thousands of suffragettes accompanied the coffin and tens of thousands of people lined the streets of London.

My Latest Hero-Kacy Catanzaro! So inspiring!!

My new hero, Dr. Howard Zucker, New York State acting Health Commissioner.  He brought scientific data showing that hydrofracking poisons water and pollutes land to the meeting with Gov. Cuomo on Dec. 17, 2014, leading to a ban on fracking in New York State. Hurrah!!!! Science trumps industry $...and for all those gas industry workers and executives who say fracking is safe, I challenge you to go live  200 yards from a hydrofracking site and have your family drink water from a well next to a fracking site. You gas industry folks should all do this!!!

December, 2014  What a great Xmas present, Dr. Zucker!!

Other favorite quotations:

Science is the great antidote to the poison of enthusiasm and superstition.
Adam Smith (1723-90) Scottish economist. The Wealth of Nations, 1776.

"When I can look life in the eyes, grown calm and very coldly wise, life will have given me the truth, and taken in exchange - my youth."

Sara Teasdale, poet

Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.”
George Orwell

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion--several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn't straight.

Mark Twain

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Albert Einstein
